iPad stand in a pinch. Since Apple is cutting corners with every new iteration of their i-devices (the iPad does not come with earphones, stand/dock or cleaning cloth), the un-boxing experience of their newer devices is getting less enjoyable.

Here is one quick way to fill the stand/dock void until you get the opportunity to buy one: Just rip out the plastic base of the box in which the iPad came in (there is a small tape in the middle holding it down). Flip it over and you have a stand to watch movies, etc. on your desk.

When flipped over, the deeper mold in the plastic base (for the power brick) can hold the weight of iPad; that is, if you are not planning to do heavy typing on it.

Since the box is the same size as the device, you can use the long or the short side depending on how you want to orient the device and it fits snuggly. However the portrait orientation is not as stable as landscape because of the subpar back support.
